Wedding Cake Debacles
I'm a very vocal proponent of LGBT rights...obviously...otherwise I wouldn't be doing all of this. I will verbally degrade you loudly and proudly in front of your children if you happen to say the wrong thing about LGBT...that being said, I'm not sure we are making ourselves look very good by suing cake shops for not making us wedding cakes. Don't get me wrong, I think the owners of these cake shops are assholes and they should be embarrassed in a very public way. I think they should be scorned profusely. I also really hope that whoever delivers their flour tells them they will no longer deliver to them as they are bigots and I would feel that would be very justified. Buuuuuuut...this is America and as long as the cake shop doesn't benefit in anyway from some sort of government assistance than I think they should have the right to deny service to whoever they want, no matter how awful and unjustified it may be.
I think it makes us look whiny and spiteful. As if we are saying, "Yeah...you don't like us and now we are going to make you make us a cake." I just don't like that. I don't think revenge solves anything. First they deny us marriage, we fight in court, then we make them make us cakes, they refuse, so we sue them....please tell me any part of that that doesn't sound absolutely childish.
I just don't even know why you'd want a cake made by someone that is such a jerkass. Let them run their bigoted business into the ground. Hell protest outside their shop if you feel the need. Just don't bring them to court because you're so upset they denied you a cake. I mean...we are a tough group of people. You just spent your entire life trying to fight for your right to marry and now you're this upset because some dumbass won't make you sweets?
Fight for your rights in the work place, fight for your rights in life...but don't battle over cake.
